Sonya’s disc is a solid collection of sophisticated folk rock that offers up competent songwriting with storytelling lyrics. Her vocals are original but I will mention the singing of Joni Mitchell to provide the reader with a reference point.
The musical parts on the CD are very well executed, particularly the bass playing of Gary Richardson, who sounds like he has been influenced by the late Jaco Pastorius. The other musicians also play with the economic sense that supports the tracks and allows Sonya the requisite space to showcase her quality voice.
Sonya’s music will please fans of the folk rock genre, who appreciate straight forward material without pretentiously cryptic words...Fourth Floor is a very good CD and gets a Madmonk overall grade of A-
